The Last Stand

September 19, 2017

Time is a powerful force that pushes us forward through each day. It is an unforgiving element, which holds so many unknowns around tomorrow’s corners. Time gives us memories, surprises, smiles, and heartaches that make these many spins around the sun our own. It moves so quickly and aggressively, as we find ourselves pressing our work boots on another Monday starting each week over and over again.

Everything seems to feel like just yesterday as the years continue to press on, and here we stand now in September with another baseball season almost gone.

It’s the final homestand for the 2017 season, and the last goodbye for Jose Bautista. The sad thing is that his time has come. And even though it seems like it came too quickly, it came as it always does. He gave all that he could to make us all stand, to make us all cheer, to give us all something to talk about through these years.

Jose Bautista danced around the diamond, flipped us out of our seats, and stood strong against the resistance of so many who were just jealous of the passion that he played so well. He had the courage to never be pushed, but to push back. He had to fight to be able to be just who he is, a fight that so many people understand in these strange and unjust days.

Everything seems to feel like just yesterday as the years continue to press on, and here we stand now in September with another baseball season almost gone.

And if this is the end for the man, it’s time to give him one final stand. It’s time to tip our caps for all that he has given to us, for all that he has done, for every baseball that has left each park, for all the stare downs, smiles, and quotes – it’s time to stand and cheer this man.

It’s hard to properly press the keys to type the words to pay tribute to someone so great.  There isn’t a single honest five-dollar word that can give the proper thanks. I guess in this final homestand, in these last 6-games, if you are there at the Dome, make sure to make it known from all of us with a thank you through a cheer, a tip of the hat, and raise of a beer.

And here we stand in September, one final stand for this man. And, I guess, there are only two words we can say: thank you.

Thank you, Jose.
