Who The Hell Isn’t Excited About What’s Happening In The Blue Jays Farm System Right Now?
For all the grief that Blue Jays fans have experienced during this 2017 season, there sure has been some Minor League farm system delectation to sweeten the sour that this year’s baseball God’s have hurled at the good Birds of summer.
This season has felt, during most times, like an exhaustive trial of are-you-kidding-me for most Blue Jays fans. It has been mixed with blow out losses, injuries, and extra inning sighs. Yet, through all the hurt and disappointment that these summer days have caused our hopeful nation of fans, who believed so highly in the Blue Jays this season, there has been a great tale that continues to beat on in the baseball diamond. And that story offers hope for the future. And the stars of this show are, of course, Vlad Jr. and Bo Bichette.
So instead of suffocating ourselves with negative emotions and wailing into the void that so many of us have been howling into, let’s take some time and appreciate the great moment that we are a part of. Because who the hell isn’t excited about what is happening down in the Blue Jays farm system right now?
And as we all know, all eyes are on the Dunedin Blue Jays who are currently fighting to pop more non-alcoholic champagne bottles in this playoff run they’re in. And cheers to them for that. And it’s really exciting to read and see - that's for sure - as it’s only a matter of time before these young men make their way to the show.
It certainly is a good baseball time to be around if you’re a Blue Jays fan, so appreciate the youthful rise of awesome that is currently happening in the leagues down under. Because the truth is, with the 2017 season of blisters and dogshit, we all need some kind of baseball thing to be excited and enthusiastic over, don’t you think?
Andrew Stoeten over at Blue Jays Nation was pretty enthusiastic and excited in one of his recent pieces where he discusses how SB Nation ranked the Blue Jays as the number two farm system for hitters. And we all really should be excited about this. The system is deep with rising stars like Jansen, Alford, Warmoth, Biggio, Pentecost - who has battled through some early injuries in his young career – and, of course, other cast members who have continued to shine at their different levels within the system.
And sure the pitching depth isn’t quite what it was before, but there is this 2017 28th overall pick down in Vancouver that is starting to make some waves, isn’t there? And, of course, that RHP is, Nate Pearson, who has been clocked at 101 – 102 miles per hour. So if you’re looking for that Thor like pitching prospect, this young hurler just might be that Blue Jays viking that you have longed for. And with LHP Ryan Borucki, RHP Conner Greene, RHP Sean Reid-Foley, and RHP T.J. Zeuch – the Blue Jays pitching prospects may soon rattle the Keith Law world in the future too.
But it certainly is fun to read all the thought flying into the Internet from good baseball writers these days in respect to the Blue Jays system (or Vlad jr. - just sayin'), as Keith Law has just ranked Vlad Jr. as the top prospect of the year. Top. Prospect. Of. The. Year. So, ahh, yeah, what else really is there to say about this young man that hasn't been said.
And with John Manuel stating that he thinks, ‘Vlad Jr. might be an 80 hit, 80 power’ guy, well, that’s pretty bat flippin’ future awesome cool. And for Manuel to compare him to peak Cabrera or peak Pujols – I guess, a thank you AA is needed for signing this young prodigious baseball kid.
Who really knows what the future Blue Jays may look like, but my friend, Jesse Goldberg-Strassler, mentioned in an interview that I did with him earlier in the year that he could see a potential infield of, “ … C Jansen, 3B Vlad, SS Warmoth, 2B Bo is a distinct possibility, with the further incorporation of Lourdes Gurriel, Jr. somewhere in the field.” And that really is something to be excited about, isn’t it? Especially with an Alford in the outfield alongside Teoscar too.
But who really knows where some of these players will end up defensively, it’s only a matter of time before it all falls into proper place. But it is time to get excited about what awaits ahead. It is a good time to be a Blue Jays fan, you may not have felt this way of late, but just brace yourself for what’s coming.
Because one thing that is certain, as fans look to the future, is that it seems that some pretty damn good prospects are moving through the system effectively producing at the plate from Lansing to New Hampshire to Dunedin to Buffalo, and, if this machine continues to do this at all levels, well, as Andrew Stoeten would delicately say the future is ‘… holyfuckingridiculousy bright …’ And it's only a matter of time until these kids start popping the corks off the real thing. And I'll cheers to that.
